What you need to get admission

Requirements vary by university and course level, but the baseline for most Pakistani applicants looks like this:

Bachelor's: FSc / A-Levels with roughly 60% and above. Some universities ask for a foundation year if your grades or subjects do not match.
Master's: 16 years of education with a 2.2 or 2.4 CGPA equivalent (about 55–60%). A relevant bachelor's helps but is not always mandatory for conversion courses.
English: IELTS UKVI 6.0–6.5 with no band under 5.5 is the standard. Some universities accept PTE UKVI, an internal English test, or an MOI letter — this differs by institution and by course.
Documents: transcripts, degree certificates, passport, CV, personal statement and two references.
Study gap: gaps are accepted by many universities if you can evidence work or study during that period.

After you accept an offer and pay the deposit, the university issues your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) — the reference number your visa application is built on.

Working in the UK after you graduate

The Graduate Route lets you stay and work after your degree with no job offer and no employer sponsorship needed. But the rule is changing, and the timing matters more than most students realise.

Applications submitted before 1 January 2027 receive the full two years.
Applications submitted on or after 1 January 2027 receive 18 months for bachelor's and master's graduates.
PhD and doctoral graduates keep three years either way.

For anyone starting in September 2026, the Graduate Route application will almost certainly fall after the cut-off — so plan for 18 months, not two years, and start job hunting in your first semester rather than after results. Details are on the UKCISA Graduate Route page.

The Maintenance Funds Rule That Causes Most Refusals

More Pakistani applications are refused on money than on marks. The rules are strict and the Home Office applies them literally:

Funds must sit in the account for 28 consecutive days, and the closing balance must never dip below the required amount on any single day.
The statement must be dated within 31 days of your visa application.
The account may belong to you or your parent/legal guardian — a parent's account needs a consent letter plus your birth certificate.
Acceptable: current accounts, savings accounts, accessible fixed deposits. Not acceptable: shares, bonds, pension funds, crypto, or a business account.
You must also show any unpaid tuition balance shown on your CAS, on top of the maintenance amount.

The mistake we fix most often: a large amount deposited a week before applying. It fails the 28-day test and reads as borrowed money. Start seasoning your funds at least three months before you plan to lodge.

How to Study in UK from Pakistan: The 7-Stage Process

Free profile assessment. We review your marks, gaps, budget and English status, then tell you honestly which universities are realistic — not just which ones will take your application fee.

University and course shortlist. Three to five institutions, matched to your profile and your family's budget, with expected scholarship amounts noted against each.

Application and personal statement. Documents assembled, statement written to your actual story, applications submitted directly to admissions teams.

Offer letter and conditions. Conditional offers usually arrive within two to three weeks. We work through the conditions — English score, attested documents, financial evidence — until it becomes unconditional.

Deposit, credibility interview and CAS. Most universities now hold a pre-CAS credibility interview. We run mock sessions on your course, your funding and your future plans before the real one.

Visa file and lodgement. Financial evidence, TB test from an approved clinic, IHS payment, online application and biometrics appointment. Standard decisions take about three weeks.

Pre-departure. Accommodation, airport pickup, bank account, National Insurance number and what to carry in hand luggage.

FAQs — Study in UK from Pakistan

How much money do I need to show for a UK student visa?

Your unpaid tuition balance from the CAS, plus living costs of £1,529 per month in London or £1,171 per month outside London, for a maximum of nine months. That is £13,761 or £10,539 in maintenance, held for 28 consecutive days.

Can I study in the UK without IELTS?

Some universities accept an MOI letter, their own English test, or PTE instead of IELTS — but this depends entirely on the institution and course level. Degree-level courses generally need evidence at CEFR B2. Confirm with the specific university before skipping the test.

Can I take my spouse or children with me?

Dependants are generally only permitted for PhD, doctoral and research-based degrees, or for government-sponsored courses longer than six months. Taught master's students are not eligible under the current rules.

How many hours can I work while studying?

Up to 20 hours per week during term time for degree-level courses, and 10 hours for below-degree courses. Full-time work is allowed during official holidays.

Will I get two years of post-study work?

Only if your Graduate Route application is submitted before 1 January 2027. From that date, bachelor's and master's graduates receive 18 months. PhD graduates continue to receive three years.

How long does the UK student visa take?

Standard processing is around three weeks from biometrics. Priority (about five working days) and super-priority (next working day) services are available at extra cost when your CAS arrives late.

Is a study gap acceptable for UK admission?

Yes, many universities accept gaps if you can evidence what you were doing — employment letters, further study, or family reasons documented properly. The gap must be explained honestly in your personal statement.
